How to Remove a Virus from your Computer

Tips for Removing a Virus from Your Computer

Below are some important things to remember when you suspect your computer has a virus.

  1. Run your virus-scanner. Sure, this one seems a little obvious, but you want to check to see if your computer is acknowledging that a virus exists on your computer. Some viruses can circumvent and hide from anti-virus programs.
  2. No one internet security is 100% safe from viruses. Sometimes the same internet security will not pick up the virus in the first scan.
  3. Run your Malware Scanners. Run both the scanners sequentially, deleting any references found.
  4. It’s always safer to call on a computer expert to perform procedures that you are not sure about. There is always a chance that you can disable your system and lose valuable data.
  5. If you’re unsure of what you’re doing, don’t do anything.
  6. Booting in Safe Mode is especially important if the malware is difficult to remove normally.
  7. Securely wipe your free space with file shredding software after the removal is complete to avoid unauthorized or bad people restoring the deleted virus file with any data recovery software.
